“It is a huge benefit to young people if their learning experience can be enriched and their imagination stimulated by extra activities beyond the regular school curriculum” says Professor Martin Rees of Shropshire Children’s University.
Shropshire CU offers children of the community a way to be productive while having fun outside the classroom. The program includes visits to museums, theatres and school clubs and provides positive learning experiences that boost the children’s confidence. “Being part of the Children's University makes me feel proud,” said one student. At the conclusion of the program, the children are recognised for their achievements in a graduation ceremony at a local university.
The organisation opened its doors in May 2011 under the direction of Peter Jones. The Chancellor is prize-winning children’s author, Pauline Fisk who developed her dream of being a writer at age nine and never wavered in that decision. Fisk commented, “It's a privilege to see children developing their interests and taking pride in their achievements. And the beauty of it all is that the Children's University is child driven. In everything it does it strives to put children in the driving seat. This is great for our children and it's great for Shropshire too.”
The Shropshire Children’s University has been a member of Attend since early 2011 and are glad to have access to the insurance and networking made available to them
