Rosetta Life
“I never saw myself as a performer - and yet I just loved standing there in front of everyone. I felt so proud!”
Rosetta Life is an organisation led by artists that enables people with life-threatening illnesses and their families to explore their experiences through video, photography, drama, poetry, fiction and other art forms.
In 1999 Rosetta Life pioneered life storytelling in hospices and in 2001 introduced digital arts connectivity to end of life care, creating the first platform to connect hospice service users through their stories in 20 hospices across the UK.
”When faced with a terminal diagnosis people may surrender their careers and lose their sense of purpose. We hope that Rosetta Life enables people to discover a new sense of purpose through creative activity,” Jarrett, Rosetta Life's Artistic Director
The projects allow people an opportunity to do something they will enjoy as well as giving them an escape from feeling like a patient. Some people derive huge satisfaction from leaving personal composition for their families. Others find their creative voices for the first time, or simply enjoy learning new skills. Rosetta Life helps the patients gain confidence, pride, and a sense of accomplishment.
All involved in a project have the opportunity to showcase their work to friends and family at a Celebration Evening held at the hospice. The events create a huge sense of pride and achievement.
Since 2001 the work has expanded to embrace a wide range of participant led choral, dance, song, photography and film projects with communities living with life-limiting illness.
