Haringey Shed

Giving all young people the opportunity to shine in a professional theatrical environment

Haringey Shed is an inclusive music theatre company that gives all young people in Haringey, North London, regardless of ability or background, the opportunity to shine in a professional theatrical environment.

They aim to use music, dance and drama to improve the lives of the young people who attend the music theatre workshops by  increasing their confidence and skills. Inclusion is at the heart of Haringey Shed's ethos. They strive to accommodate the needs of young people with a range of physical and learning abilities.

Harrington Shed runs a Children’s Theatre for ages 8–10 and a Youth Theatre for ages 11–16 that meet every Tuesday evening throughout term times. The end of each term sees a performance by one or both companies. The productions often include a cast of hundreds and involve commercial directors, writers and musicians working together with the Haringey Shed team to deliver workshops.

Among the many initiatives they run are

Residential - as part of our programme we take our members on regular adventure residentials. Over the last five years we have organised regular residentials and they have now become one of the most anticipated and popular activities here at Haringey Shed.

Big Noise Choir for ages 7–15 and the Very Vocals for ages 16+.

Shed Moves - uses dance to develop confidence, communication and team building skills

Under One Roof - young people 16-19 devise new work, creative writing and a variety of performance styles

Kids Time - runs workshops for children and their families where a parent may be affected by mental ill health. Helping children and young adults make sense of what has happened to their parents in a safe and understandable way

Helping parents to cope with being a parent when stressed by mental health problems, Helping families talk together so that they can better find solutions

Haringey Shed works with a number of schools in their neighborhood, providing various drama workshops, and training teachers on how to work inclusively and how to integrate drama into the curriculum.

Wokring with Attend Academy, Haringey Shed launched Helping Others to Learn, a venture taken to bring storytelling alive and develop the communication skills of young adults with learning difficulties. While attending the workshops, the participants further their confidence and mentoring skills by first creating a story and making an audio recording of it. In the next stage, participants take what they learned in the creative process, and pass their knowledge on to other volunteers so that they can create their own story and recording.

Haringey Shed volunteers not only provide valuable expertise and assistance but also help to create a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere that supports the all-inclusive environment. They are always on the lookout for new volunteers who want to work in any capacity.
