Clyst Caring Friends

A helping hand and a friendly face

Clyst Caring Friends is a charity that was set up to support patients and care for people in the areas covered by the Pinhoe and Broadclyst Surgeries in Devon through a range of varying activities.

A purpose-built Day Centre has been built next to the Broadclyst Surgery. The Centre runs sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-3pm, with a bathing facility being offered for those who can no longer manage to bathe at home on Tuesdays. The sessions run by the qualified staff and volunteers provide structured and planned activities for people who require close care. The support provided is tailored to each client and helps individuals to live independent lives for as long as possible, whilst giving their carers respite and support.

In addition to the Day Centre the Friends also organise a weekly Drop-In coffee morning, a much enjoyed social event for people in the local area, as well as a monthly Luncheon Club which gives housebound or lonely individuals, as well as their carers, the opportunity to socialise with others in a similar position. The transport service provided by the Friends picks up those who cannot drive or use alternate transport and brings them to the Luncheon. Volunteers will also bring these patients to their appointments at the surgeries or to the dentist once they have been referred to the service by their doctor. They also run a charity shop which is open from Tuesday to Saturday, selling clothing, books, ornaments and jewellery

Clyst Caring Friends were awarded an Opportunities for Volunteering grant by Attend to help expand their services and to develop these schemes which are dependent on the work of dedicated volunteers.
