Selby Hands of Hope

‘Charity begins at home’

“A local charity, run by local people, on behalf of local people.” Wendy Singh, Founder of Selby Hands of Hope

Selby Hands of Hope raises funds for causes specifically within the Selby District. The charity contributes to projects elected by the community which include donating to playgroups and schools and a makeover of the football club.

As a trusted charitable organisation founded in 2009 by Wendy Singh, they provide assistance to the people who need it the most in Selby and the district.   Hands of Hope is operated by ten committee members who host a variety of activities to collect funds. Past events include golf and cricket days and an annual anniversary dinner. They encourage other community members to organise fundraisers and inspired a mother and daughter duo to cycle the 330 miles from London to Paris in partnership with schools and businesses in the Selby area who will complete the miles on exercise bikes. The friendly competition both raises more money and shows solidarity for the pair on the road.

More recently Josh O'Neill ran 2 marathons in two days, and raised a brilliant £5022 (inc Gift aid)

Selby Hands of Hope run 2 shops in the area selling a range of donated goods including furniture, clothing, games and books. The money raised from sales at the charity shops goes back into the community supporting local people and organisations.
