A New Year message from our President

The older we get, the quicker the years seemed to pass. As a child, Christmas seemed to me to go on for ages! Now I am not saying anything, but it really does not feel like twelve months since I wrote my last New Years greeting to you all. Yet in that time a lot has happened and many of you have faced new difficulties as well as unexpected joys.

Ann Wickham awarded BEM in New Years Honour List

The Guild of the Royal Hospital of St. Bartholomew recently hosted a celebration for the hospital’s 900th anniversary in the newly restored Princess Alice Garden on Tuesday 12 September. Guild President Ann Wickham gave thanks to current Guild Patron His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester with a gift: a map of Barts drawn in 1617 depicting the area where the Princess Alice Garden would one day stand. This is just the latest of Ann’s extensive contributions to and achievements for the Guild, once again fortifying her as a crucial pillar supporting the Royal Hospital of St. Bartholomew.

Why our groups buy toiletry packs

Sharon Elswood has seen the League of Friends of Warwick Hospital go through many changes since she joined the Friends committee in 2005, but one thing that has remained consistent is the group’s ongoing donations of courtesy packs to the hospital. Courtesy packs contain toiletries and other supplies for patients. Sharon recently ordered a supply of 1000 courtesy packs for the Friends to distribute to different wards as they request them and that supply will likely only last about 9 months. The packs are in huge demand, with Sharon’s last purchase of 2000 packs lasting only about a year.
