The Department of Health has released plans which will potentially enable charities and other organisations the opportunity to support the provision of healthcare services. This is known as the ‘Any Qualified Provider’ policy detailed in the Department’s document ‘Liberating the NHS: Greater Choice and control.’
Increasing incidences of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) have become a large concern over the years. One superbug in particular has been an increasing problem; the Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) together with other organisms have penetrated virtually every hospital. The government has plans for a system of deep cleaning to combat superbugs. Not all responsibility can be put on the government, facilities managers can play roles in addressing the problem.
The CQC is the independent health and social care regulator for England. Their aim is to ensure better care for everyone by regulating health and social care services provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations. Established under the National Health Service Act 2006, NHS foundation trusts give greater independence to NHS organisations whilst remaining a part of the NHS and subject to its standards.
Who is covered by NHS Indemnity? NHS bodies are liable at law for the negligent acts and omissions of their staff in the course of their NHS employment.
